We have had quite a time w/ chickens around here.  We started out w/ a lot of baby chicks.  We slaughtered our roasters and raised our others to laying age.  At which time neighborhood dogs dug under and killed 1/2 of them.  We were so disappointed, but still had some and were getting 3-4 eggs a day.
Then we started letting them free range in our back yard.  But it was more of a challenge to collect eggs.  Actually, it was like Easter every day!  Ha! We added some little cochens to our flock and enjoyed watching all of them peck around the yard.  But slowly, one by one they got picked off.  Snake, hawk, possum, dogs.  We were so discouraged.  We decided that we wanted chickens, but needed to make sure they had a very secure place to stay...and no more free ranging. :(

We set up an electric fence and got 10 hens and one rooster that are laying age.  They are different types and I'll have to take more pictures of them.  They are all so beautiful!  And the best part is that we are getting EGGS again!!!!

The kids love our chickens!

And did I mention that we are finally getting eggs?!!  6. A. DAY!!!!  We get brown and blue eggs and they are so delicious!  We are getting more now than ever and we are able to share finally!!!  Yay!

They are so beautiful and they taste SO good.  You've honestly never had an egg if you haven't had a farm fresh egg!!!!!
