Pumpkin Gutz

Ahh, the annual carving of the pumpkin.  This year we decided to go big with the pumpkin.  I don't think any of these pictures show just how enormous this pumpkin is, but Charley Kate could have easily sat in it w/ her head barely peeking out!  The kids thought it was the coolest!  ;)

BUT, as for the insides....not so much.  Charley Kate acted like if it touched her she would catch on fire!  So naturally daddy had a good time w/ that!

And, as usual, Molly Beth wasn't a fan of all the slime.

Suz loved it and couldn't get enough!

Jack was in the "no thank you" group.

when we gave Charley Kate a spoon she became very interested in it.

Suzannah had a fun idea to see what face we should put on it.  She suggested we all draw a face and then we could vote.  I'll let you know who won tomorrow.

And just for fun, I read this sweet little parallel to tell the kids as you carve your pumpkin:

Choose your pumpkin: This reminds us that God chose us.

Cut off the top: Just like when God reaches into our hearts and cleans out all of the yucky stuff inside - all the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc... we can clear out the inside of the pumpkin.

Carve: as when God carves a new smiling face in each of us. II Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old is gone the new has come!"

Light: allow His light inside us to shine so that others can see Him!

It was a nice reminder to me to be mindful always of ways to teach them about the love of Jesus.  Even when carving a pumpkin....

The gutz are the best part! Dan lost his wedding ring gutting our pumpkin this year. Thank goodness he had put all of it in one bag, making the search much easier.
