Preparing for the Sickies

Ug. It's that time of year again. Time for the sickies. We've already had one bout of "the throw-ups" and now we're passing around a cough and stuffy nose. So many years I get caught off guard and unprepared, but not this year. I've made a list of all the things we might need and am in the process of checking everything off the list. I like to keep things as natural as possible but am willing to make exceptions especially when someone starts tossing their cookies! And although I like to make things homemade, you never know when one or several of your littles are going to come down w/ something, so convenience is the best option here.

Here's a look at my list:
humidifier
eucalyptus oil (to drop into the humidifier)
nasal aspirator
2 thermometers
tissues
sippy cups
straws
noodle soup
chicken broth
jello (several flavor options!)
crackers
OJ
chewable vitamin C
Popsicles (they even have Pedialite Popsicles)
ginger ale
honey and lemon juice (the best option for a sore throat!)
cough drops (make sure you read the back. some aren't safe for kiddos)
ginger tea, peppermint tea and kid's favorite tea Constant Comment
Gatorade
garlic oil (invaluable for ear aches!!!!!)
children and infants Motrin and Tylenol
purelle
Lysol
Clorox wipes

We are consuming lots of apples, oranges and grapefruits right now and will continue throughout the winter. We will do our best to get out in the sun everyday. Washing hands is a must! And cutting back on sugar (which we need to do anyway!). Oh, and staying out of Wal-mart!!! Hopefully we'll be able to stay healthy this winter. :)

Great list! When my kids have stomach problems anything that has sugar in it (gatorade, gingerale, etc) just comes right back up and its a struggle to keep them hydrated. When Juliana was 8 mths my nurse told me to try weak Chamomile tea. We still use it for upset stomachs. :)

We keep eucalyptus oil around here, it really clear out the stuffy noses. I used to have T sit under a sheet with the oil in a bowl of boiling water to really get a good effect.

We are dosing everyone on Vit C. Hope you guys stay well.

So far, we have only had 1 round of a small cold, but even baby K got it.
